• Backend: The part of a website or software application that users do not see. It is the portion of the software that does not interact directly with the users but powers the functionalities that do.
2024 Research

Understanding these terms can help you better grasp the nuances of admin panel development, whether you choose a template or a custom solution.

The Basics of Admin Panel Templates: Pros and Cons

So, what are admin panels exactly? Admin panel templates, like those offered by Flatlogic, provide a quick and cost-effective solution for setting up a functional backend interface. These templates come pre-designed with essential features such as dashboards, analytics, and user management capabilities, which can significantly reduce development time and effort.

One major advantage is their out-of-the-box usability; you can immediately integrate them with various backends and start managing your application’s data without delay.

However, there are downsides to consider. Templates might not always align perfectly with your specific business requirements, leading to potential compromises in functionality or design. Moreover, while templates are customizable to an extent, extensive modifications can become as time-consuming and costly as building a solution from scratch.

This limitation might restrict your ability to innovate or adapt the admin panel as your business evolves.

Customized Admin Panels: Tailoring the Experience to Fit Your Needs

Opting for a customized admin panel, like creating one from scratch or heavily modifying a base like Flatlogic’s templates, allows for a precise match to your business’s needs.

Custom solutions enable you to integrate specific features, workflows, and designs that reflect your operational requirements and branding. This bespoke approach can enhance user experience, streamline operations, and provide greater scalability.

The main challenge with customized solutions is the higher upfront cost and longer development time. They require detailed planning and skilled development resources, which can strain budgets and delay deployment.

However, for complex or highly specialized projects, the long-term benefits of a custom admin panel—tailored efficiency and exclusivity—can outweigh these initial drawbacks.

Cost Comparison: Template Solutions vs. Custom Development

When comparing costs, template solutions like those from Flatlogic typically offer a more budget-friendly option upfront.

These templates reduce the need for extensive development resources, as much of the design and coding work is already completed. This can translate into lower costs for project initiation and quicker turnaround times.

On the other hand, custom development, while more expensive initially, can potentially offer a better return on investment in the long run for businesses with unique processes or scaling needs.

Custom solutions can be optimized for efficiency, better aligned with business goals, and more adaptable to future requirements, which might save money otherwise spent on adjusting or replacing a less flexible template solution.

Time Efficiency: Speed of Deployment with Templates Against Custom Solutions

Templates provide a clear advantage in terms of time efficiency. Solutions from providers like Flatlogic are designed to be deployed quickly, allowing businesses to set up a functional admin panel in a fraction of the time it would take to develop a custom solution.

This rapid deployment is ideal for projects with tight deadlines or for businesses that need to get to market quickly.

Conversely, custom solutions demand a significant amount of time for planning, designing, developing, and testing.

While this process ensures a tailored fit to specific business needs, the longer timeline can be a disadvantage, especially in fast-paced industries where speed to market is critical.

However, for businesses where the admin panel is central to operations, the time invested in customization can be a worthwhile expenditure, ensuring the panel is a perfect fit for the company’s workflow and can adapt over time as the business grows and changes.

Scalability and Flexibility: How Templates and Custom Solutions Stack Up

In the bustling digital landscape of Boston, MA, where my company crafts cutting-edge software solutions, understanding the scalability and flexibility of admin panel frameworks is crucial. Templates like those offered by Flatlogic provide an attractive starting point due to their immediate scalability.

These templates are designed to accommodate growth, allowing businesses to expand functionalities as needed. However, they may sometimes fall short when specific, intricate scaling requirements come into play.

On the other hand, custom solutions offer unparalleled flexibility. For my clients in the greater Boston area, custom-developed admin panels mean that as their businesses evolve, their systems adapt seamlessly, integrating new technologies and processes without the constraints often imposed by pre-designed templates.

This bespoke approach supports not just growth but also the unique pivots and niche demands of each business, ensuring that the system grows with the company.

Case Studies: Real-World Examples of Template and Custom Admin Panels

Our LA-based software development company has had the opportunity to work with diverse clients, providing both template-based and custom-developed admin panels tailored to their specific needs. Here are two such real-world examples that highlight the effectiveness of each approach:

Example 1: Template-Based Solution for a Startup
One of our early clients, a dynamic startup specializing in digital marketing, was on a tight deadline to deploy their operations online. Leveraging a Flatlogic template, they were able to quickly establish their admin panel, which was crucial for managing their campaigns and analytics.

The template offered them a robust, cost-effective solution that eliminated the need for a significant upfront investment in custom software. This not only expedited their market entry but also provided them with a scalable framework that could grow with their business.

The startup was able to launch within weeks, significantly ahead of its competition, helping it to establish a foothold in the market rapidly.

Example 2: Custom Solution for a Tech Company with Specialized Needs
Conversely, we worked with a well-established tech company based in Seattle that produces advanced medical devices. Their requirement was for an admin panel that could integrate seamlessly with their proprietary hardware used in hospitals and clinics.

This project required a custom solution developed from scratch, as no existing template could accommodate the complex data inputs and operational needs of their devices. We developed a tailored admin panel that not only met these intricate requirements but also featured enhanced security protocols necessary for handling sensitive health data.

This investment in a custom solution paid off by providing them full control over their admin processes and delivering a seamless user experience that was specifically aligned with the healthcare industry’s stringent standards.

User Experience: Does One Size Fit All with Templates?

Templates, while beneficial for getting a project off the ground quickly, often require modifications to truly meet the specific user expectations of a diverse user base.

For example, a Flatlogic template might provide an excellent framework, but to resonate with local users in San Francisco, additional customization might be needed to reflect the particular aesthetics and functionality desired.

Moreover, templates can sometimes introduce limitations in the user interface, which might not align perfectly with the intended user interactions or workflows specific to a business.

In these cases, a custom solution crafted by our San Francisco-based team allows for the creation of a user experience that is not just functional but also delightful and fully aligned with the user’s needs and the company’s brand.

This attention to detail in custom projects enhances satisfaction and drives user engagement, proving essential for businesses looking to stand out in competitive markets.

Maintenance and Support: Long-Term Considerations for Templates and Custom Panels

As a Boston-based software development expert, I’ve helped numerous clients navigate the complexities of maintaining and supporting their admin panels. One crucial aspect to consider is the long-term sustainability of your chosen solution, whether it’s a template like those offered by Flatlogic or a fully custom design.

Template-Based Solutions: Templates are appealing for their lower initial cost and quick deployment, but they also bring unique maintenance challenges.

Generally, you are dependent on the provider for updates, security patches, and new features, which can be a double-edged sword. While this means less hands-on maintenance work, it also leaves you at the mercy of the template’s update schedule and feature roadmap.

Here’s a simple comparison table based on my experience with clients using template solutions:

AspectConsideration
UpdatesOften automatic, dependent on the provider. Limited control over timing and features.
CustomizationsPossible, but it can be overwritten during updates. Careful planning is needed to maintain custom features.
SupportTypically robust but limited to the template’s built-in features. Custom issues may not be supported.
ScalabilityHigh for standard uses; may require significant tweaks or additional modules for unique needs.

Custom Solutions: Custom admin panels, while more expensive and time-intensive to develop, offer significant advantages in maintenance and support. You have complete control over the update cycle, feature additions, and security measures, which allows you to tailor everything to your business’s specific needs.

Here’s what the maintenance landscape looks like for custom solutions:

AspectConsideration
UpdatesFully controlled by your team; schedule and implement as needed.
CustomizationsAll customizations are maintained through updates, with no risk of being overwritten.
SupportSupport is as comprehensive as your resources allow; issues are addressed on your terms.
ScalabilityDesigned to scale based on predetermined business requirements and can be adjusted at any time.

Making the Choice: How to Decide Between Templates and Customization for Your Project

Choosing between a template and a custom solution for your admin panel is a significant decision that impacts not just your current operations but also your long-term flexibility and growth. In my role as a d software developer, I advise clients to consider several key factors:

 1. Budget Constraints: If your initial budget is tight, a template from Flatlogic might be the ideal solution. It offers a cost-effective entry point with a wide array of features.
 2. Time to Market: Templates are the go-to for rapid deployment. If your project timeline is pressing, leveraging a pre-built solution can get you operational faster.
 3. Business Specificity: Evaluate how unique your processes and needs are. The more specialized your requirements are, the more likely a custom solution will be necessary to accommodate them fully.
 4. Future Growth: Consider your scalability needs. Templates offer great flexibility up to a point, but a custom solution can be designed to scale precisely with your business.

Balancing Practicality and Personalization in Admin Panel Design

The choice between using a template and opting for a customized admin panel often comes down to balancing practicality with personalization. At my software development firm in San Francisco, I’ve seen how both options can effectively support different business strategies and goals.

Templates like those from Flatlogic provide a quick, reliable, and cost-effective solution that is ideal for many startups and small businesses. They offer a variety of designs and functions that can suit a broad range of business types.

However, for businesses with specific needs, complex workflows, or plans for significant scaling, custom solutions often become a necessity.

Ultimately, the decision should align with your company’s operational priorities, budget considerations, and future aspirations.

By carefully assessing both the immediate and long-term needs of your business, you can choose a path that not only meets your current demands but also supports your growth and evolves with your business.

Wrapping Up: Key Takeaways and Your Next Steps with Flatlogic

In this article, we’ve delved into the detailed considerations necessary for choosing between template-based and custom admin panels. Here’s a quick recap of the key points covered:

 • Template Benefits: Cost-effectiveness, ease of use, and speed of deployment are significant advantages, making templates suitable for startups and businesses that need to launch quickly.
 • Custom Panel Advantages: Tailored fit to specific business requirements, scalability, and flexibility are the hallmarks of custom solutions, ideal for businesses with unique needs or those planning significant future growth.
 • Maintenance and Support: While templates offer ease through provider-handled updates, custom solutions offer complete control over maintenance schedules, support, and custom features.
 • Cost and Time Efficiency: Templates generally cost less upfront and are quicker to deploy, but custom solutions, though initially more costly and time-consuming, may provide better ROI in the long run due to their tailored design and scalability.

Navigation

Numerous admin panels operate with multi-column interfaces as they are easier to understand. In the left sidebar, you can set up menus with different levels of nesting. This sidebar is fixed to the screen, while the module can be moved and changed with the content. Normally, the left navigation column organizes the content into modules and functions, while the rest of the screen displays this content in detail. It is convenient to visually divide such navigation by different colors or background shading.

It is also important to identify which module the user is currently in. For this purpose, you can use color highlights, or simple shapes – lines, squares, etc. – can be used. It is also useful to divide the main content of the page into a grid represented by columns. Different content can occupy the entire grid or several columns.

For responsive layouts, this approach is particularly useful. So, opt for multi-column interfaces if you want to use the same design of the admin panel on different screen devices.

Simple design

When designing the admin panel, keep in mind that regular users are more or less experienced and have some technical background knowledge. Therefore, they are used to this kind of interface.

However, this does not mean that the interface has to be complicated and confusing. Admin panels are designed for specific tasks and include features that make it easier for users to focus on features, content, and important data.

Use simple colors, fonts, and shapes to avoid overwhelming users with visual information. At the same time, we recommend using colors where necessary to attract attention. The focus should be on real-time data and information. Of course, don’t forget to pay attention to a clear structure and appropriate presentation of data.

The UI should be pleasant and understandable. You can use micro-animations such as cursor pointers, loaders, and animated illustrations can facilitate understanding. This improves the user experience and does not require lengthy customization.

It is best if the UI/UX design of the admin area is simple. Use a logo, brand colors, or icons for branding, but make sure it does not distract from the main content. Present the data and available options as clearly as possible.

Icons

Include explanations and instructions in the form of tooltips next to complex elements on administrative pages with many different features and options to reduce the time it takes users to find explanations, documentation, or useful material.

Using icons in navigation is another good option for your admin panel. For example, they can convey a function and/or purpose and should be easy to read. Icons serve as signposts that provide visual cues to users as they move through an admin panel. They should not distract too much from the main topic.

Permissions

Permissions are an important aspect of an administrative system’s functionality. If you have a large number of people who need to manage the system, it can be more complicated to implement than it seems.

An admin panel is an internal tool, which means you’ll likely have a system that your staff can log into. In the best case, developers can implement authorization through an existing system.

If it is not possible to pass authorization to an external system, consider pulling users from that system. A password-free email stream can be created for authorization, as this is the most secure option: passwords cannot be weak if they are not present.

Security and authorizations

Typically, admin panel users have different roles that bring different levels of access and permissions. The ability to check access in the UI adds convenience: users do not see content that is inaccessible to their roles. However, the only thing that guarantees security is server-side auditing.

If you want flexible access, it’s worth creating it based on permissions. In this case, every step a person takes in the application requires the corresponding permission. The essence of roles is preserved, but they look like a set of permissions. Using this approach, you can create custom roles for different requirements.

Verifying data

The admin panel usually contains a large amount of data. Therefore, it is worth thinking about the pagination of lists. Also, do not underestimate the importance of finding the information you need. Sorting and filtering mechanisms should be in place to simplify this process.

Data Editing

Edit forms often consist of many fields, so administrators often spend a lot of time editing such forms before making changes. Moreover, the results of this work can be lost if another employee edits the same form and saves the changes a little later.

This problem can be solved by using an optimistic locking technique. It consists of versioning the data. When the edit form is displayed, you get a version of the current item, and when you save it, it is sent to the server.

By default, the changes are saved only if the database version matches the version you send. If it does not, an error is reported, which means that someone else has already changed the data. When you save the changes, the server reports the version of the new object.

Headless CMS

Using a modern headless CMS site can speed up the development of simple application components, such as editing a simple list of objects without much business logic. However, make sure the CMS provides enough points for extending and installing custom business logic. Otherwise, it will tend to get in the way.

When designing the admin panel, it is important to have a well-thought-out design. If there are many functions and elements of the admin panel in one place, it becomes even more difficult to work with. To design a system that works, you need to take an in-depth look at your users and ask them what they want from the product.

The most important questions to ask yourself when designing your management interface are:

 • What features need to be integrated?
 • Which features are important?
 • Are you looking for third-party integrations?
 • Describe how you want the registration/log-in process to work for you.
 • Do you want the content to be posted?
 • Will everything be moderated?

All these questions are important to create the perfect admin panel for your website. So, before you start designing your admin panel, you need to answer these questions to know the business requirements of your project and perform user behavior analysis.

Turn Your Ideas into Reality with Flatlogic’s Web App Generator

Admin panels are crucial components of business software, serving as the backbone for data visualization and feature access. Tailoring these dashboards to align with specific business requirements not only aids in development and maintenance but also enhances user productivity by providing a focused and efficient work environment, underlining the importance of a custom approach over a one-size-fits-all solution.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Therefore, it is a good idea to analyze all the business requirements that the dashboard should meet. You can limit the capabilities of the management panel and choose a simple option or invest in developing a complex solution with more features.

What is Angular?

Angular stands as a globally recognized framework for crafting web applications, offering two distinct flavors: Angular and AngularJS, each with its unique characteristics.

AngularJS, developed in 2009, showcases the dynamic capabilities of JavaScript, allowing for automatic updates in the UI in response to data changes. It promotes the development of reusable and modular code, streamlining the web development process.

On the other hand, Angular 4, launched in 2016, marked a significant advancement with faster coding capabilities. This evolution led its creators to develop a new framework based on TypeScript, featuring standard directives applied in innovative ways. The transition from AngularJS to Angular 4 represents a leap towards more efficient and sophisticated web application development, catering to the evolving demands of the business software sector. This progression underscores Angular’s commitment to providing developers with robust tools to build dynamic, scalable, and maintainable web applications.

Material Design

Material Design is a design language developed by Google. Unlike a programming language, a design language is not a technical solution that you have to comply with if you’re working with it. It’s more of a guideline system that shows how to maintain a visual and UI style.

Admin dashboard developers rarely prioritize design and user experience. Admin dashboards are usually viewed as a means of business communication that’s not aimed at end-users, and the no-nonsense, minimalist approach to design is understandable. However, visual experience plays a huge part in how data is perceived.

The dashboards in this article are compliant with Material Design. This is an unobtrusive, minimalist design pattern that sits well with most users. Furthermore, Material makes any integration with Google services (which is a popular scenario) smoother and more intuitive.

As is often the case, after the article’s release we kept researching the market and came across many solutions that either hadn’t existed before or needed a closer look to catch our attention. There were no real game-changers that would shift positions in our ratings but there were a few interesting entries. Next up is the one we found the most noteworthy.

Fully Angular Admin Template

Source: https://angular-templates.io/product/fully-angular-admin-template?rel=nofollow

The Fully Angular Admin Template is highly modular. It has no non-Angular extensions, which reduces the risk of backfiring dependencies. Fully Angular has CRM and eCommerce admin panels, analytics, charts, cards, and more. If you visit the template’s web page and look for the list of features, you’ll see each of them has multiple sub-options and variants.

After seeing and trying as many templates as we have, it’s easy to jump to some conclusions. For example, such an arsenal of components gives the impression that many of them are unnecessary and are only there to make the product impressive on paper. But as we tried the template out, each component quickly gained our ‘Feature, not gimmick’ verdict. The component hierarchy is easy enough to navigate. Controls remained intuitive as we delved into the depths of the Fully Angular Admin Template. And the template’s authors promise further support and feature creation. The Fully Angular is a very complete package and comes at a reasonable price of $39.

CoreUI Angular

Screenshot of the main dashboard of CoreUI Angular Admin

CoreUI is an Angular & Bootstrap 4-based admin template. The templates are positioned as open-source, but in reality, you will not get many features in the free version.

The CoreUI template’s low-key design is well suited for enterprise applications. There are dark and light layout versions. The company behind this template also made some high-quality icons and flags.

The fastest way to start using CoreUI is to download a ready-to-use admin template.

This template has documentation, however, not without a small flaw – it is the same for all frameworks. Also, 404 errors are found on some documentation pages. All components are documented, but the structure is a bit blurry.

The website says the template has more than 50 components, such as Editors, Tables, Widgets, and Charts. The project is updated several times a month. Quite a significant advantage is that users contribute to the open-source version of the template.

The company provides free support and promises to respond 48 hours after your request. The website has a special support form for your issues.

Prices range from $89 to $1409 depending on the license. There is also the option of a monthly payment of $89 per seat.

The company was founded in 2013 and has more than 6 years of experience in building admin templates. OLX, DHL, and other companies were using CoreUI admin templates.

It is an overall good template. The price is relatively high – a significant drawback. Plus, due to a big number of components, there is a feeling they might have poor quality.

MDBootstrap Angular Admin Dashboard

Screenshot of the main dashboard of MD Bootstrap Angular

MDBootstrap Angular is an Angular admin dashboard template containing different styles, data presentations, and a number of components. It is built with the newest Bootstrap 4, Angular CLI, and Material Design and delivered under an MIT license – free for personal and commercial use.

The template is fully responsive. A design similar to Google’s tools gives you a clear view of your data. The style is intuitive and informative. Each piece of information is connected with the corresponding category.

The code is clean and has a well-designed structure. This version doesn’t use jQuery at all. All Bootstrap script was rewritten in plain TypeScript and compiled to pure JavaScript.

You can download the template via direct download, then simply open the folder and work with the template.

The project has good complete documentation with every component described.

This template is built with MDBootstrap, containing 400+ material UI elements, 600+ material icons, and 74 CSS animations. The project is updated 1-2 times a month.

The company has a knowledge base of support questions. The community is also there to help users with questions. The free support is also included in commercial licenses.

The price for commercial use of the product varies from €99 to €759, personal usage is free.

This template has good quality and an experienced team behind it. The quality of support is at a good level with a lot of answers from the community. Updates are quite often. But Material design is not a thing everyone would prefer. Plus, the relatively high prices and the small number of components in the free version are nothing but discouraging.

AdminPro Angular 7 Admin

Screenshot of the main dashboard of AdminPro Angular 7

AdminPro Angular Template can be used for admin dashboards and control admin panels. The template is fully responsive and based on a strong angular framework.

The big advantage of this admin template is its design variety. For example, there are three ways how you can see the dashboard: modern, classic, and analytical. There are also dark, horizontal, and even RTL layouts for this dashboard. As for the visual part, the design is quite modern, but not too much.

The template is based on NgBootstrap 4x, Sass, and Angular 7, so it can be easily customized. The only problem might be Angular 7, as it is still quite a new update.

Angular Material Template is built with Angular 13 and Material design. Neither jQuery nor Bootstrap was used. What’s interesting is that the template is created with TypeScript, an open-source programming language developed by Microsoft.

The template is supplied as an already built app. The description of the admin dashboard says it has full documentation. However, we haven’t found any links to check this before buying the project.

The admin dashboard includes 30+ Ready to Use Angular Components. It also includes a collection of 3 Unique Dashboards along with 5 Unique Demos. Lots of charts, tables, and form options are presented in AdminPro Angular.

We haven’t found any information on the frequency of updates as the template doesn’t have a public GitHub repository.

The website says you will have 1-year free dedicated support. We believe it will be only emailed or chat support for basic versions. Response time is not specified as well.

The price is ranged from $39 for Single Use to $299 for an Extended license. You can also buy Multiple licenses for $79 and $499. For this price, you get 1-year support and lifetime updates.

The admin sells at the WrapPixel marketplace, so we don’t know anything about creators and clients. But we believe that WrapPixel is quite reliable in terms of checking the sellers. The overall download count at this marketplace is around 38000, which is quite a big number.

This Angular template is well suited for companies that want a few options for the layout. Also, it covers the eastern market that needs the RTL version. The price for multiple versions is quite high. Another minus is that you cannot check the documentation before purchasing the product.

The Ngx admin team is well recognized in the Angular community. They also collaborate with the Angular team and publish posts on the Angular blog. Finally, ngx-admin is (surprise!) completely free for commercial purposes, because it is MIT licensed. All in all, this template has a solid code, therefore, it’s perfect both outside and inside.

This tool helps to save development time and contains 40+ ready-to-use widgets, components, and pages. Material Angular Dashboard is completely new, so the information about the frequency of updates is unavailable for now.

This admin dashboard is completely free and open-source. The company provides support via GitHub issues. The company has been around since 2016, but it has never done any dashboards before.

Angular Admin Template by Angular Templates IO

Screenshot of the main dashboard of Angular Templates IO

This Angular template includes all the components that you might need in a project, plus detailed documentation on how to get started.

The design is fairly clean, however, the color spectrum choice causes doubts. Charts are very carefully developed. The template is based on the latest version of Angular, HTML5, and CSS3.

To install the project you need to download the zip file and set up a development environment. To do this, install the npm and Angular command-line interface. This dashboard has full documentation: every step regarding development is well described. The documentation even has sections as “known issues”, “changelog” and “upcoming features”. It creates the feeling that the project is developing.

The Angular dashboard includes more than 30 components. Updates happen once a month, the support is free and works through email. Also, the company has several databases of tutorials. Prices vary from $30 for a single license to $99 for an extended license.

The company is relatively new and doesn’t have any info about past and present clients and the number of downloads.

If you wish to try something new in terms of layout and colors, this template might be a good option for you. But usually, design experiments are not fit for serious projects. In addition, it just feels quite strange that the extended license only costs you $99.

Recap and Conclusion

The market of Angular templates is well saturated. There are companies that sell templates through marketplaces and many others sell through their stores. If you want to develop applications for large companies, choose an admin panel with a discreet design, good customer track record, clear documentation, and fast response time from support.

If you want to try and explore developing on angular, then choose the open-source version. In that case, the design isn’t so important.

Bonus: we have prepared a table for you to get a better understanding of the big picture. We will be helpful if you will support us on Twitter (if it’s still alive), LinkedIn, Facebook, and ProductHunt!

Bootstrap Templates: Introduction

If you are reading this article, that means that you are moving with the times, because the demand for Bootstrap templates is expected to grow. That’s because of the current situation around the world related to the pandemic. We are not going to hype out that, it’s a very serious and mournful situation. We want to underline the consequences: people stay at home and this is essential to move your activity online. For example, if you have a business, make an app for it, if you dreamed about developing some specific application, put your idea into practice!

The best way to create a web app is by using templates. They provide fast, well-coded, documented, ready-to-use decisions, and you need only to adapt them to your idea. Speed is the crucial point here and that is where templates become the most appropriate instrument to create an app. For an example of a web template, check out the Bootstrap admin dashboard by Flatlogic.

Bootstrap templates are different, and we speak not about the design and the number of ready-to-use elements, but about the technology on which a template is based. That is why we want to discuss the best Bootstrap admin templates built-in pure Javascript as well as building popular frameworks and libraries. To be precise, these frameworks and libraries are React, Vue, and Angular. If you are not familiar with any of them, look only through the best templates built in pure JavaScript or read the Article about Angular and React.

Which Bootstrap templates to choose?

The algorithm is simple:

 1. Define the technology you want to use.
 2. Determine the features and requirements for your future apps (for example, we need group and face-to-face chats, emails, and fine-looking profile pages. Or you have a requirement to launch the app within a month and you don’t have time to customize the template).
 3. Look through the demos of templates built with the technology you need, keeping in mind what you got from the second point. We focused on Bootstrap templates in the article, but there are other options on the market.
 4. Buy the template

Check the alternatives to Shopify, Magento, and other wll-known giants.

The post 14 Great Admin Panel Themes for E-commerce appeared first on Flatlogic Blog.

]]>

If you thought admin panels were just the backstage of your e-commerce show, think again. They’re the secret sauce to not just running the show but dazzling your audience. Stick around, and let’s unravel the magic behind the curtains together.

When embarking on the e-commerce journey, one finds themselves pondering questions like: What makes an admin panel more than just functional, but enjoyable to use? How can the right theme boost my site’s performance and user experience? Are there themes out there that can truly cater to my unique business needs? Reflecting on this, Steve Jobs once said, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

The quest for the perfect admin panel theme is not just a matter of aesthetics; it’s about finding the right tool that empowers your e-commerce platform to operate smoothly and efficiently. Studies have shown that the usability and functionality of admin panels significantly impact the overall productivity and satisfaction of those managing e-commerce sites. Unfortunately, the internet is a vast sea of options, and without guidance, it’s easy to drown in the choices.

Why should you trust me, then? With over a decade of experience in web development and a track record of building successful business software, especially e-commerce platforms, I’ve navigated the complexities of admin panel themes firsthand. I’ve tested and implemented numerous themes across various projects, gaining insights into what works and what doesn’t in real-world scenarios.

By the end of this article, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge to choose an admin panel theme that not only meets your e-commerce needs but elevates your site’s functionality and design. You’ll learn about the 14 greatest admin panel themes that stand out in 2024, each with its own set of features, advantages, and suitability for different types of e-commerce businesses. Prepare to transform your admin panel from a backstage pass into a front-row seat to the success of your e-commerce venture.

Types of eCommerce platforms

Here’s a thing about modern software development: when you want to launch an online store, you usually turn to ready-made platforms, both paid and free. We all know platforms like Magento, Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and others. Each one has its pros and cons. The obvious advantage of using such solutions is the speed of deploying stores – for example, Shopify takes over the entire technical process of setting up the store. Magento offers various hosting partners as well. 2024 Research

Such an approach has certain disadvantages: big waste of money, getting stuck on a single technology, lack of technical support, lack of customization, searching for developers, and so on.

Developing custom solution

Taking all these disadvantages, you may be tempted to write your solution. However, we recommend doing this in these cases only:

 • If your store is rather non-standard and you need deep customization of existing solutions. Then it really may be easier for you to write your solution. For example, not all ready-made platforms are suitable for selling digital goods.
 • If you already have developers that know specific technology. For example, you happen to have people on your team who can work on React + Node.js. In that case, you can write a custom solution that ready-made eCommerce platforms cannot provide.
 • Another advantage of custom solutions is the store speed. If you lay the right architectural solutions under the hood from the start, you can end up with a very fast-acting store.
 • If you want to save money and not give it to a third party. For example, you don’t want to pay for a Shopify subscription or buy the Magento enterprise version.

In general, the choice of how to develop an online store depends on the following criteria:

 • The size of the planned store;
 • What the store will sell;
 • How fast the store will grow;
 • Availability of developers in the company;
 • How much you can allocate to development and support?

E-commerce templates explained

If you are still reading this, we suppose you still want a self-written solution for building online stores and ask the question – how can I save time and money?

There is a solution called ready-made templates for online stores. You get an already-written code base and design at your disposal for a one-time payment. Prices for such templates can be ridiculously low, and the benefits are enormous. According to our internal calculations, such a product can save you $20k in the initial development alone. You can buy such products at a specialized template marketplace or from template premium vendors.

Ready-made e-commerce solutions can use the following technologies:

 • React, Vue, and Angular on the front end;
 • Node.js, PHP, Python for backend;
 • MySQL, and PostgreSQL as a base.

Also, as options, various analytics tools can be connected and configured there – for example, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, etc. Payment systems can be also integrated.

In this article, we will simply list e-commerce templates from various vendors. Before we do this, let’s analyze the minimum functionality and components that must be present in such a product.

 • Of course, you need to have a shopping cart feature;
 • Product management system;
 • Product catalog;
 • Login and registration forms;
 • Checkout feature;
 • To ensure: different elements like buttons, logos, and tables to edit your shop;
 • Responsiveness;
 • It’s also good if your eCommerce theme has a search option.

We would also like to warn you that e-commerce templates are divided into 4 types:

 • Templates and themes made for a specific technology. For example, themes that only suit Shopify, Magento, Prestashop;
 • Storefront templates that you can integrate with any backend and admin template;
 • Admin templates (panels) that can be connected to the existing online store or data to manage it;
 • Full ecommerce templates that have both the front-end (storefront) part and the admin panel inside (back-end).

In this article, we will review products from the last 3 categories.

Bonus!

Honorable mention: Hound

As we continued exploring the web template market, some impressive entries came up. And while none were so groundbreaking they would shift our list’s order, we thought at least one deserved to appear on the list.

The Hound has over 90 pages, over 500 interface elements, and 2k icons. With such versatility, we expected the Hound to be bloated and excessive but we were in for a surprise. The controls’ hierarchy turned out rigid and intuitive enough. We navigated it with ease, and we believe even a complete beginner can with just minimal research. The integration options are stellar. Maps, to-do lists, calendars, Google maps, charts, tables, and more. If there’s a feature you want in your eCommerce admin panel, the Hound most likely has it, and chances are it connects to outside services like clockwork.

The main downside we could see (literally) was the design. It can be fun and pretty. But an admin template is something you might have to look at for hours on end, and the Hound’s bright design is the opposite of neutral and unobtrusive. Still, we believe the Hound’s good sides outweigh the questionable aesthetics to the point where it deserves at least an honorable mention.

Creating Your Apps with Flatlogic Platform

We’ve covered 14 templates that are good in many regards but especially when used for e-commerce projects. Now, let’s take a look at another path you can take.

Most web applications operate by using different combinations of basic functions. The combinations are different but the functions are the same. Standard web apps like the ones used in e-commerce are sometimes called CRUD apps. CRUD stands for Create, Read, Update, and Delete. These are the most basic functions that most web applications perform. Understanding that, we simplified the process of app development to give everyone a shot, not only those with a team of dedicated developers.

To do this, go to the Flatlogic Platform and follow five simple steps.

#1: Choose the project’s name

This step is as simple as it sounds. Pick a name that is easy enough to associate with the project in case you end up with several of them.

#2: Select your Web App Stack

Decide what your App will run on. Choose underlying technologies for the front-end, the back-end, and the database. In the example shown in the screenshot, we’ve picked React for the admin panel, Node.js for the back end, and MySQL for the database.

#3: Choose the Design

The Flatlogic Platform offers a variety of admin panel designs. There are lighter and darker themes, themes with Material Design elements, and our proprietary design patterns. Pick the one you’ll be able to look at for a long time.

#4: Create your Web App’s database schema

We’ve picked the technology the database runs on. Now it’s time to define tables, columns, types of data in them, and the relationships between those. At this step, you decide what the content of your App will mean. Furthermore, the Platform will automatically generate REST API docs for your App.

#5: Review and generate your App

Review the decisions you’ve made. If everything is as intended, hit “Create App”. After compiling for a little while, the Flatlogic Platform will offer you your very own App that you can push to GitHub and host in one click. Enjoy!

Introduction

Beauty is the removal of superfluities. This statement by Michelangelo isn’t only about aesthetics. Masters of various professions have made similar statements. And the ones who didn’t often showed a similar attitude to their craft and life. Empty spaces in a painting give weight to the parts that aren’t empty. Mechanisms with fewer moving parts break less. Fewer components in software mean fewer things can go wrong.

In this article, we’ll talk about the best React Bootstrap template and themes. Both React and Bootstrap are frameworks that let you use existing functionality in your web applications. Using them is the software analogy of fewer moving parts in a mechanism. By using Bootstrap templates, you trade some versatility for speed and reliable operation. If you need components not supported by Bootstrap, you’ll want to use other solutions. But when used right, Bootstrap saves time and helps avoid potential compatibility issues. To know what templates to choose and how to use them, keep reading!

What You Need to Know About Bootstrap

We’ve written so much about React it’s hard to find an article in our blog that doesn’t have a paragraph on it. Today, we’ll pay more attention to Bootstrap. So, what is Bootstrap? In short, Bootstrap is a FOSS (Free and Open-Source Software) CSS framework. It serves to develop a responsive cross-platform front-end with an emphasis on mobile platforms. It also serves as a design templates library for interface components like typography, forms, navigation, and more. Bootstrap helps front-end developers create gorgeous integration-ready interfaces that are also design-conscious. But it has other uses besides building web apps from scratch. Like integrating new design elements into your ReactJS project. Bootstrap’s ready-made kit packages help you integrate these elements into your project.

Bootstrap Pros

Integrating Bootstrap into your project has many advantages:

1. Time Efficiency

Have you ever tried coding the traditional way, using Notepad or a similar text editor? If you have, try and see the size of the files you wrote by hand. Now compare that with the weight of a complete piece of software. Now imagine how much time writing every line of code by hand will take. Bootstrap libraries have functions and components you don’t have to create from scratch. Bootstrap doesn’t need programming skills beyond the basics of HTML-CSS-JavaScript tandem. If you know basic website design, adding Bootstrap will be easy. Additionally, Bootstrap documents every component it contains. 2024 Research

2. Consistency

Twitter programmers Mark Otto and Jacob Thornton developed Bootstrap in 2011. Their goal was a framework that eliminated any consistency issues. If you create a project with Bootstrap, it looks the way you intend on any platform and browser. This fact helped Bootstrap become one of the top front-end frameworks on the market today.

3. Conducive to Teamwork

Bootstrap is what you would call beginner-friendly. It is easy to learn and needs minimal training. The detailed documentation that we have mentioned helps avoid any ambiguity. If a new person joins your project’s team, they’ll have no issue learning this framework and seamlessly joining the work process.

4. The Grid System

When creating a page layout, a good grid is necessary. Bootstrap is divided into 12 fluent and responsive website content columns. It allows developers to create desktop-specific elements by hiding them in the mobile version and vice-versa. And the predefined classes each component possesses also make the grid much easier and faster to understand.

5. Responsiveness

As nowadays all the initial searches are run through mobile devices, the website’s responsiveness is as important as it ever was. And guess which framework is all about creating mobile-friendly websites? That’s right – Bootstrap is. Add that to the Grid System and you’ll get a website that passes the required level of responsiveness, with little effort.

Bootstrap Cons

Of course, Bootstrap has its downsides. Let’s make a rundown of all the things about Bootstrap you’ll want to avoid.

1. It creates similar websites

Websites and interfaces built with Bootstrap usually look fine, with little that can go wrong or look out of place. But Bootstrap’s creators aimed for consistency above versatility and it shows. Creating standardized interfaces is a different task from creating recognizable website designs. Bootstrap’s consistency comes at a cost of end results looking alike. The more you use Bootstrap the more Bootstrap-y everything will look. It is possible to override and change style sheets manually but it kills a big part of why we use Bootstrap.

2. It can be heavy

We’re used to devices getting thinner and lighter. Perhaps that’s why it’s hard to wrap our heads around how heavy software has grown. Bootstrap-based projects are no exception. Using Bootstrap often causes your web app to grow too heavy for casual mobile browsing. This issue can be manually resolved, but, again, this messes with the purpose of Bootstrap.

3. Learning Curve

Bootstrap’s learning curve is less steep than, for example, Angular’s. Still, it is there, especially in the Grid and the component attribution department. A beginner usually spends quite some time studying those before using Bootstrap casually. Luckily, it’s a one-time investment. Bootstrap’s documentation covers the newer version adaptation once you’re familiar with it.

The Best Bootstrap Has to Offer

Bootstrap’s best sides are, of course, the quickness and seamlessness of web development. Especially for mobile devices. On the other hand, Bootstrap inflates the websites’ weight and makes any attempts at originality harder. Should you use Bootstrap? As is often the case, the short answer is ‘it varies’. Bootstrap has its pluses and minuses. And it’s your usage of it that determines which outweighs the other. To give you a better idea of where to start, we’ve picked eight of our favorite React Bootstrap templates. They vary in design and functions but we believe each one can be of interest. Let us dive in!

Top React Bootstrap Templates/Themes

Coming up is our list of the best React Bootstrap Templates.

3. Shards Dashboards Lite React

The third entry on our list is Shards Dashboard Lite React by design revision. Consider it a little treat we would like to add for all the lovers of free templates. The first good thing about Shards Dashboard Lite is that it’s free of charge, but that’s the first of many things. Shards Lite is responsive and lightning-fast. It’s built from scratch but follows all the best modern development practices. That stands true for every template within the Shards Dashboard Lite React. It has over a dozen custom components and more than a thousand and a half icons from FontAwesome and Material icon packs. If you want to start with a free React Dashboard Template and see where to go next, try Shards Dashboard Lite React. It will probably be a while before you have to upgrade.

4. Light Blue React Template

We take pride in the product that comes next. The Light Blue React Template is Flatlogic’s product, and it’s quite a heavy hitter. Admin dashboards are our specialty, and we spared no effort this time. The Light Blue React can cover you as an admin dashboard, a booking management system, or an app for promo deals. We paid a lot of attention to design, too. Light Blue’s visuals are unobtrusive and, well, light. If you plan to work with an interface for hours on end, you want a subtle design that you barely notice is there. Add customizable stylings, and you’ll have an idea of why you should try the Light Blue.

5. CoreUI Bootstrap Admin Template

Built on Bootstrap 5 and React.js, CoreUI is a simple template to handle. CoreUI boasts mobile and cross-browser compatibility. But we can say the same about other templates on this list. Likewise, for the long-term support. What sets it apart is the dedicated support from developers. If you face issues with CoreUI, you can get qualified guidance from the people who wrote the damned thing. CoreUI is a responsive, cross-browser template with lots of features and no requirements for your design skills. Give it a try!

6. BizLand

Now we get to sixth place on our list, which means we are about to talk about BizLand. BizLand is a Bootstrap template that is most fitting for business and corporate projects. BizLand helps manage consulting, finance, tax information, insurance, and more. It has a slick “it’s all about business” design and vibe. BizLand comes with all the features and components a good React Bootstrap template needs. But the thing that made us love BizLand was the way it works. React components improve the speed of development but often make the website slower. That’s not the case with BizLand. The interface is fast and smooth, so the user experience will be fantastic. BizLand is responsive and functional, comes with well-commented code and its file structure is easy to deal with. A definite catch of a Bootstrap template.

7. Creative

One might nitpick and say that calling a template Creative can be ironically uncreative. Nonetheless, Creative more than deserves the seventh spot on our list, as it is stylish and quite practical. Creative contains a bunch of features. SB Forms-based working contact form and UX-friendly navigation contribute to the consistent experience. And the HTML markup and custom SASS layout make things intuitive. Creative will be a great fit for your next Bootstrap-based, especially if it is a small business or a creative agency.

8. Coming Sssoon Page

And now it is time to wrap up this list. But we cannot do it without mentioning the last, eighth, entry, which is Coming Sssoon Page. Let’s use your deductive abilities once again and with their help, we can come to the conclusion that this light, easy-to-use Bootstrap 3 template is going to be most fitting when it comes to a project that is going to launch in some time in the future. With the help of the Coming Sssoon Page, you can create a beautiful and engaging page of this kind that can help you establish a following even before your project actually starts its life.

How to Create your React Dashboard Template

Is this list a complete piece of guidance? Not necessarily. There’s a legion of templates out there, and we cannot give full credit to each one that deserves it. Still, we manage to try hundreds of templates and pick a few that stand out. Some do so with their dependency, others with their smooth operation. But each item on the list is a solid piece of software that does its job. But if none of them made an impression on you, we have a solution – creating your own! Don’t worry! It’s neither difficult nor time-consuming. Keep reading to know more!

You can also create your own React-based Bootstrap-looking template with the help of Flatlogic’s Full-Stack Web App Platform! Here’s how you do it:

Step #1. Choose a name for your project.

Despite perceived simplicity, this step might as well be the hardest one, as you will have to think of a name that can befit your project. And also, the other steps are even easier.

Step #2. Choose a stack for your project.

As we are creating a React-based template, we need to choose the React option for the front-end. Backend and database can be entirely of your choosing.

Step #3. Choose a design for your project.

Here, we should say, it is better to choose the Transparent variant, as it is Bootstrap-based.

Step #4. Choose a schema for your project.

That is right, you don’t even have to spend time creating a schema yourself, as there are ready-made variants for you to choose from.

Step #5. Review and generate your project.

Just assure yourself of your choices and press the «Create Project» button.

And what you will have on your hands is a brand-new beautiful React-based Bootstrap-looking template.

Conclusion

Bootstrap is a tool that you should definitely try, if you haven’t already, as you will find it greatly simplifies the not-so-easy process of web projects creation. And that’s it for today!
